12/15/2003 Jourdanton Little League Launches Web Site and has Big Plans for Future
The Jourdanton Little League has recently launched a new web site – www.jourdantonlittleleague.com. The web site has very useful information for the players, parents, managers, coaches, team moms and supporters. In the past, the league used to a free web site service at www.eteamz.com, but the site was difficult and time consuming to update and didn’t allow for the customizations that the new site does. The league hopes that this site will be frequented by our members and prove to be a valuable asset.
The web site was donated by Tammy Blalock of TMB Web Designs. Tammy has been designing web sites for local businesses for more than three years now, and each fiscal year, she selects a non-profit entity to design a web site for. This donation was part of a capitol improvement plan for the Jourdanton Little League.
This capitol improvement plan is of major importance and on the front burners. Many of you may not know that the league’s playing fields are in desperate need of a major overhaul and the Jourdanton Little League does not have the luxury of playing in a modern complex, such as the Pleasanton Little League. The fields are many years old and are about to become safety hazards. Currently, only one of the two fields is equipped with playing lights making the scheduling of some 16+ teams difficult. The South Field's fence is old, rusted and falling apart and both fields' back stops need repair. Currently, both fields are designed for baseball, and the league plans to convert one of the fields to a softball field. The North Field concession stand is about to blow away, just as the roofs on several of our buildings did during the Claudette storm only a few months ago. A portable building was purchased a few years back to house the vast amounts of paperwork acquired each year, provide a place for registrations to take place and hold the league's monthly meetings. To date, the board of directors has been unable to use the building because it still needs to be finished out.
The Jourdanton Little League actively raises monies each year (roughly $20,000) by participating in the Poteet Strawberry Festival, having an annual bar-b-q plate sale, collecting registration fees, selling advertising banners and recruiting team sponsors. However, the majority of this only covers the day-to-day operating costs and leaves little resources for improvements such as these.
In addition to our regular season sponsors, the Jourdanton Little League is currently searching for businesses and individuals interested in donating to the league in any capacity. The help we are looking for includes, but is not limited to:
- light poles for playing field
- cyclone fencing materials
- lumber
- concrete
- trees to be planted
- office furniture
- computer capable of Internet connection
- filing cabinets
- a conference table and chairs
- labor; and
- anything else you can think of.
The Jourdanton Little League has recently filled a new Board of Directors for the 2004 season and all 15 persons on the board are excited and enthusiastic about making these dramatic improvements for our 300+ players. Please help to make these improvement goals become a reality and make the home playing fields something that the Jourdanton Little Leaguers can be proud of.
The Jourdanton Little League plans to recognize all businesses and individuals who help with these plans by recognizing them on the Web site and posting a recognition sign at our playing fields. To date, David Smith, of Texas Wild, has donated some office furniture and Sherwin Williams, on Military Drive in San Antonio, has donated 15 gallons of paint.
More information about Jourdanton Little League can be found at www.jourdantonlittleleague.com. If you are interested in donating in any capacity to the league, please contact our President, Liesl Hons at 769-9223, or our Secretary, Tammy Blalock at 769-3155. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
