04/04/2007 Jourdanton Little League’s 50th Opening Day
Jourdanton Little League's opening day ceremonies celebrating their 50th year has been deemed a huge success. The day started with a parade consisting of over 20 entries which started at 9:30 a.m. sharp and weaved it's way through town ending at the baseball park shortly after 10:00 a.m. The first game ceremonies started simultaneously just before 11:00 a.m. at both fields with a helicopter fly-over during the playing of the National Anthem. The fly-over was provided by J's Flying Service of Jourdanton which is owned and operated by Joseph Meyer.
At the north field the ceremonial first pitch was thrown out by 87 year old Henry Schorsch Jr., one of the original founders of Jourdanton Little League back in 1956 and 1957 and the original Manager of the 1957 Jourdanton Major Division Giants.
First, the Tee-ball Yankees and the Cardinals squared off against each other for an exciting game. Over at the south field the Tee-ball Angels played a game against the Tigers. At 12, the Coach Pitch division Diamondbacks played the A's and defeated them in a good game. In the same division the Jourdanton Indians played two exhibition innings against the A's.
At 4:00 p.m. the Upper Minor Jourdanton Astros defeated the Rangers 14-1 and Astros pitcher Roel Dillard pitched a complete game and also hit an inside the park grand slam home run (without errors). Leftfielder Sterling Bronstad also had a RBI double for the Astros. Also in the Upper Minor Division the Jourdanton Reds beat the Poteet Astros 10-0.
In Upper Minor Softball the Red Hots defeated the Cherokees 11-0. Red Hots pitcher Jessica Eisenhauer was the winning pitcher throwing three scoreless innings and striking out seven. Karley Taylor pitched the final inning for the Red Hots and struck out the side. In the Major Softball division the Lady Longhorns defeated the Texas Threat 12-1. Michelle Carrasco was the winning pitcher hurling a complete game. Just prior to the 8:00 p.m. softball game between the Junior Division Jourdanton Lady Warriors and the Charlotte Wild Catz, the players and fans were treated to a spectacular firework display put on by the Jourdanton Little league Board of Directors. The Lady Warriors won the game behind the strong pitching of Sydney Lopez. Over in Charlotte that evening the Jourdanton Major Division Red Sox defeated the Charlotte team 11-0. Blade Brondstad was the winning pitcher for the Red Sox. Before the day came to a close the Board of Directors buried a time capsule that is to be opened by the Little League board in 25 years in the year 2032. Board President Tammy Blalock was very pleased with the opening day events and was very great full to her board members, managers, coaches and supporters that made it all come together.
