The Jourdanton minor baseball division Astros played the Poteet Astros May15th in Jourdanton. The game was suspended in the bottom of the third inning due to an injury to a Poteet player with Jourdanton ahead 4 -0. The game will be finished at a later date. On Friday, the Astros and the Jourdanton Reds squared off for a battle over first place in the upper minor division. The Reds jumped out to a 2 – 0 lead only to have the Astros tie it up in the bottom of the second. The Reds went up 3-2 in the top of the third and the Astros scored five more runs in the bottom of the third to go out in front 7-3. The Reds scored 6 runs in the 4th inning to take the lead again 9-7. The Astros then scored 2 runs in the 4th and 3 runs in the 5th inning to regain the lead 12-9. The Reds rallied in the top of the 6th and scored a run but the threat was quelled when Astros catcher Ricky Guerra gunned down Nick Garcia attempting to steal third to end the game. Roel Dillard started for the Astros and pitched three innings striking out 8 and giving up three runs. John Paul Lugo relieved him and struck out 6 in three innings and allowed 7 runs. Lugo was credited with the win improving his record to 1 – 1 with 1 save on the year. Ricky Guerra had a double and a RBI and Dillard also had a double and a RBI. Dietrich Herrera had an inside the park homerun and a bases loaded triple and 5 RBI’s to lead all Astros batters. Lugo and Matthew Heritage both had singles and a RBI apiece. For the Reds, Nick Garcia, Hayden Higginbotham and Zadock Dinkleman combined on the pitching effort. Garcia hit a double and scored on two throwing errors and Thomas Gaither also had a base hit for the Reds. The Astros improved their record to 7 -1 on the season. In the girls softball upper minor division the Red Hots defeated the Pleasanton Giants 28-3. Karley Taylor was the winning pitcher going three innings and striking out 7 not allowing any runs. Kloe Burris came in in relief for her first pitching appearance of the season and only allowed three runs. Jessica Eisenhauer went 4 for 5 at the plate scoring 4 runs with 4 RBI’s. Mackenzie Shelton also went 4 for 5 scoring 4 runs with 2 RBI’s. In their final game on May 18th the Red Hots lost a close game to Charlotte 13-12. Both Red Hots pitching aces struggled issuing 15 walks. Shelys Miranda was 2 for 3 at the plate scoring 3 runs. Sumner Garcia had double and 2 RBI’s. The Red Hots finished the season 11 -1.
