By March 12, Jourdanton Little League’s south field will be equipped with playing lights. This project has been many years in the making and after much planning and progress, local Little Leaguers will finally see the fruits of many labors. This project was first envisioned by the Board of Directors about eight years ago and at times, it was difficult to imagine being completed. After eight years of saving money, a lot of brainstorming and the determination of this year’s Board of Directors, Jourdanton Little League has cleared a major hurdle. Jourdanton’s softball payers will now be able to enjoy some of the same perks as the baseball players. In addition to the south field having lights for night games, it will also become a softball field. For many years, softball players in Jourdanton have had to play on a field designed for baseball.
In addition to all of the improvements being made to the playing fields, Jourdanton Little League is also gearing up for its opening day. Opening day has been scheduled for March 20, with all Jourdanton teams playing on that day. None of the opening day activities have been confirmed, but there is talk about an original founder of Jourdanton Little League throwing out a first pitch, fireworks, fly-byes, door prizes and live entertainment. It will be the biggest and the best opening day Jourdanton Little League has ever seen.

A special thanks goes out to Richard Wells and Lanny Wheeler of Justin Contracting, Jerry Schuetz of Schuetz Welding Service, Armando Calvillo of CNE Landscaping Services, Jesse Cantu of Paradise Painting, Oscar Munoz, Pete Herrera, Jimmy Meyer and Burton Meyer in support of the 2004 Capitol Improvement Project.
In addition, many thanks to South Texas Regional Medical Center and Jourdanton Pharmacy for assisting with supplying the league’s first aid kits and Dennis Vyvlecka and Armando Calvillo for shredding some of the league’s practice fields.
The League is still actively pursuing its goals for the 2004 Capitol Improvement Project. Much work has been done already to accomplish this long list of improvements, but the League is still in need of many contributions. If you are interested in contributing, in any capacity, to the Jourdanton Little League in regard to the 2004 Capitol Improvement Project, please call our League President, Liesl Hons, at 769-9223 or log on to the League’s web site at www.jourdantonlittleleague.com for a detailed list of the League’s needs. Your name and/or your business’s name will be placed on our web site and will also be placed on a commemorative sign recognizing contributors at each of our playing fields to be seen for many years. Any contributions, monetary or otherwise, will be greatly appreciated and provide the much needed resources the League needs to accomplish the 2004 Capitol Improvement Project.
